What is the problem?

Net migration is rising

3. Net migration is rising

Our population has increased by nearly 8 million in 20 years. About 85%, or 6.7 million, has been due to immigrants and the children of immigrants.

The UK has always experienced periods of immigration in the past but on nowhere near this scale.

See a history of immigration to the UK here.

In 1997, net migration was just 47,000. By 2005 it had reached 320,000.

So the current Conservative government has completely failed to reduce immigration, as it promised.
